Stabiae and the Villa San Marco

The Villa San Marco in Stabiae

This extravagant and extremely well-preserved Roman villa is a gem!  This is a great example of a Roman villa.  It was buried during the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius and excavated by archaeologists.  Some of the most notable features include an upper and lower peristylium and a swimming pool.  The atrium is enormous and there were many guest rooms.  The home owners enjoyed hosting guests and you can imagine the extravagant dinner parties as well as the opportunities for summer relaxation at this villa.   Please view the videos for a more in-depth look at this villa.
